This phenomenon of generating cold or chemical light occurs through a chemical reaction resulting from the mixing of two chemical substances. Bending the rod breaks the contained ampoule, and the two chemical solutions inside the rod then produce light.

The glow sticks produce neither heat, fire, gas, nor sparks and are non-flammable and non-toxic. They function completely autonomously, require no maintenance, and are always ready for use. They are a reliable light source that operates safely without batteries or rechargeable batteries.
