The Silva Expedition S compass is the best choice if you want a target compass with many features.
The Silva Expedition S features a grippy ring, rubber feet on the bottom for secure map contact, a detachable carrying strap with a safety release, an inclinometer for determining terrain steepness, luminous markings for navigation in the dark, a magnifying glass, and map scales in millimeters and inches. On the Expedition model, the scales are located on the base plate for easier distance measurement. GPS scales are 1:25,000 and 1:50,000. It also includes integrated settings for magnetic declination correction.
A sighting compass is a compass with an integrated mirror that allows you to clearly see the compass needle when aiming at a point on the terrain. This enables more accurate bearings than with a standard ruler compass. This type of compass is best suited for use in open terrain when determining directions over long distances. This is because you can keep your eyes on the compass while scanning the landscape.
The slope gradient map is useful both for recognizing avalanche danger and for assessing the difficulty of the terrain. Knowing the gradient also allows you to estimate how much longer the route will be due to the steepness. In steep terrain, you should always be aware of the avalanche danger. The risk increases when the gradient exceeds 30 degrees, and the slope gradient map makes it easier to assess this risk.
The compass also has a detachable neck strap with scale markings (1:25 and 1:50) and serves as a ruler. It can be used to calculate distances.

Silva is a Swedish premium brand for outdoor equipment, such as headlamps, compasses, backpacks, and packs. In 1933, Björn, Alvar, and Arvid Kjellström, together with Gunnar Tillander, invented the very first liquid-filled compass, and the story began. It was not only the first compass of its kind but also set the worldwide standard for modern navigation. In 1935, they launched the first headlamp, and the Silva brand was born.
